Goods created with Intention

The High Fiber started as a seedling around 1986, when I, Daphne, was eight years old and received my first bag of fabric scraps. Designing and hand-stitching tiny clothes for my dolls became a daily habit. A few sewing machines, a lot of practice, and many years later, the dream of "making" a living became a reality.

The High Fiber officially began in 2009, and it's still evolving. In March of 2014, my husband Ed joined the business, trading the wildly demanding restaurant world for screens, ink, and far more family camping trips than we ever thought possible. Ed and I are no longer married, but we still run The High Fiber together. Today our work is carried by more than 400 shops across The United States and Canada.

We're rooted in Western North Carolina. We spent 10 years in a sweet mountain town just minutes north of Asheville, North Carolina. In 2017, we relocated to Gainesville, Florida, but returned to Asheville again in 2019. We were displaced from our studio in Asheville's River Arts District in 2024. We're planning a return to the RAD in the fall of 2026; for now, we work from home studios in Asheville and Franklin, NC.

Every towel, card, and print starts as an original drawing and ends as something made with intention, one piece at a time. We print on unbleached, 100% cotton flour sack towels (the kind that get softer and more absorbent every wash) using only water-based, non-toxic inks that are environmentally kind and made in the USA. We choose recycled, responsibly grown, fairly made, and American-made fabrics as often as we can.

We strive to live thoughtfully and simply, and I'm constantly inspired by that simplicity, by the gorgeous mountains around us, and by the community of growers and makers here in Western North Carolina. Every item we make for you is made as if it's meant for our own family, because most of these designs originally were.

Thank you for supporting handmade work. Whether you found us at your local shop or here online, we're glad you're here.
